Relations Between Turkey And The Comoros
Turkey recognized the Comoros after its independence and established diplomatic relations in 1979. The Turkish Embassy in Antananarivo, which has started its operations as of April 2010, is accredited to the Union of the Comoros. The Embassy of the Comoros in Cairo is accredited to Turkey.
The Comoros has an Honorary Consulate in Istanbul, while Turkey has an Honorary Consulate in Moroni.
As a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Comoros has kept close relations with Turkey on many occasions. The friendly relations between the two countries manifest themselves in various international organizations as well.
As a manifestation of the good relations, Turkey has become one of the leading trading partners of the Comoros. The trade volume between the two countries in 2018 was 18,3 million USD and in 2019 the trade volume increased to 21,1 million USD. In 2020, the bilateral trade volume was 19 million USD (Export from Turkey 14 million USD; import to Turkey: 5 million USD).
Turkey is providing development and technical assistance to the Comoros through TİKA, which established a Program Coordination Office in Moroni in April 2017.
Turkish Government, within the framework of Türkiye Scholarships, is allocating undergraduate and graduate scholarships to students from the Comoros. Until now, 127 students from Comoros were granted scholarships.
Junior Diplomats from the Union of Comoros participate in the International Training Program for Junior Diplomats, organized each year by the Diplomacy Academy of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
